When we are on the spiritual path, sometimes it can get challenging to find the right balance between being a "Yogi" and engaging with society. How can you know what is the best way for you to find that balance and how is the best way to behave in social situations?

This question seems to come up for many people who get confused about which of these practices they should start with! Sometimes when people, especially from the west, visit an Ashram for the first time, they are unsure if it is a cult or wondering what people are actually doing there. They might even ask themselves if people in an Ashram are just blindly following a guru. Especially in the west we are not used to hear about different forms of intelligence or energy in the human system like in other traditions.

One way to get out of our analytical mind is to practice devotion. Devotion is like an emotional state we can create within us. It is like a gateway to access other forms of intelligence and other dimensions of life. We can even become more receptive, something that is crucial on the yogic path.

2011 I went on a 2 weeks journey to Mount Kailash in the Himalayas. The trip was organized by Isha Sacred Walks and in this video I share some experiences as well as some tips in case you are planning to take on a similar journey at some point!

Sometimes when we want to achieve something, we stop back from the first sign of inconvenience and go for a fast, shorter pleasure. But if we are able to go through harder times, pain or discomfort, knowing that good things are waiting at the end, our life will gain deepness and profoundness.

Have you ever noticed in your life, that inspite of your yoga practice, sometimes it can feel something is still holding you back?

I will call it the "yoga mat trap". The idea that our yoga practice happens only on the mat. It is much more than that. In my experience, I always had the largest growth jumps when I made it the point to integrate "Yoga" into my daily life.

I would go as far as saying that Yoga needs to happen 24/7. The part on the mat is very important and foundational (and by the way if you want to learn some of our Yoga practices, you will find upcoming classes in Zurich, Basel, and Frankfurt below). But the part OFF the yoga mat is at least equally important!
